10 reasons to attend the Accommodation Fair

A room in our on-campus accommodation

The Accommodation Fair will be taking place from Monday 25 to Thursday 28 February 2019. In case you don’t know what the Accommodation Fair is all about, we’ve come up with 10 reasons why you should attend!

Decide where to live

The first and arguably biggest reason to attend our Accommodation Fair is to help you decide where to live. Whether you want to live on-campus, off-campus or are still undecided then the Accommodation Fair is the ideal place to explore your options further.

Accommodation Talks

There will be an on-campus accommodation talk taking place on Monday 25 February in Digby Chapel, 3-4pm, to help you explore your options with living on campus.

There will also be a series off-campus accommodation talks which will explain everything including legal stuff and the property list.

  • Monday 25 February, Digby Chapel, 12-1pm
  • Tuesday 26 February, Whitelands G036, 4-5pm
  • Wednesday 27 February, Digby DU001, 5-6pm
  • Thursday 28 February, Digby Chapel, 4:30-5:30pm

Speed Flatmating

Looking to live with other people but don’t know who? We’ll be holding a speed flatmating event which is a fun way to meet other students looking for flatmates. It will be on Monday 25 February in Digby Diner at 6pm.

Meet Landlords/Exhibitors

As well as meeting potential flatmates, there is also an excellent opportunity to come and have an informal chat with trusted landlords signed to the University. As well as this, you can chat with Accommodation, RSU, Student Finance, Student Wellbeing and Endsleigh Insurance.

  • Thursday 28 February, Whitelands Foyer, 12-2pm
  • Thursday 28 February, Digby Diner, 3-7pm

Meet other friendly faces

And finally, the Accommodation Fair is just a great way to meet others who are in a similar situation to yourself, as well as people at the university who you can talk to if you have any problems. Moving into a new flat can be a daunting experience but meeting some friendly faces beforehand is the perfect way to take the edge off.

View accommodation in person

There’s no better way to decide where to live than to check out your options in person. On Wednesday 27 February, there is the chance to check out our cheapest on-campus accommodation, Mount Clare.

You will get to view the accommodation and enjoy an afternoon of fun playing volleyball on the green with Sport Roehampton, refreshments and a quiz in the common room. Simply meet at the Union Bar at 2:15pm and you will be shown the 5-minute walk to Mount Clare.

Financial Advice

Dealing with finances is something a lot of people struggle with, especially being a student, so there will be interactive workshops all about the student loan. You will get the chance to learn all about on-campus vs off-campus costs so bring a notebook, pen and calculator. There will be two sessions taking place:

  • Monday 25 February, Digby Chapel, 2-3pm
  • Tuesday 26 February, Whitelands G033, 5:15-6:15pm

Wellbeing Advice

George Walker, Roehampton Students’ Union’s Vice President Community and Welfare, will be giving a talk on mental health first aid. He will be giving you all of the best tips to help out a friend when in crisis. We understand that university can be a tough time, so it’s important to know exactly who to talk to and how to act in a situation where you or a friend may be struggling.

Bonus Event

If all of the above isn’t quite enough, there will be a bonus event happening on Friday 15 February from 1-2pm in Digby Chapel. Here, you will get the chance to attend a talk hosted by the Met Police and Head of Security followed by Q&As.
