Sports and Societies

There are many sports teams for you to get involved with at the University including Football, Hockey, Basketball, Netball and so much more. We also have a gym right here on campus to help you keep fit.

However, if sport isn’t your thing, there are also many societies which you can join, ranging from the Vegan Society to the Photography Society to RoePaul’s Drag Society. Find the full list of Societies here – but, if none of these take your fancy, you can even set up your own! Many of our sports clubs and societies will be at this year’s Fresher’s Fair where you will be able to sign up.

Roe Reads

Roe Reads happens every year at Roehampton and all students can claim a free book from the Library. Simply go to the Library and pick up your copy – it’s as easy as that! This year, the chosen book is Everything Under by Daisy Johnson.

Growhampton

Growhampton is the Roehampton Students’ Union’s sustainability project. They recently won the Healthier Places Award at the Sustainable City Awards in London, which celebrates the best examples of innovation and good practice, for a smarter, healthier and more environmentally friendly world.

Growhampton have plenty of projects for you to get involved in, including their weekly Farmer’s Market, Learn to Grow, Harvest and much more. They also have The Hive Café which is an ethical and environmentally conscious coffee shop, serving homemade food. It is the only independent catering outlet on campus, meaning that all proceeds go straight back into the Growhampton project, allowing them to continue their great work.

University Social Media

When it comes to social media at the University, we have plenty for you to get involved in. We’re always looking for students to write for our blog, take over our social media accounts on Snapchat and Instagram or create vlogs for our YouTube channel. We have lots of ideas for you to get involved in already, but would love to hear some of your own ideas too!

Students’ Union Events

Throughout the year, our wonderful Students’ Union (RSU) puts on so many greats events including the Summer Ball, Theatre Tuesdays, the RSU Awards and so much more. To make sure you don’t miss out, follow the Roehampton Students’ Union over on social media and be kept in the loop.

Student Ambassador Scheme

We have a great paid Student Ambassador Scheme at the University where students can apply to get involved with open days, offer holder days, campus tours, welcome week, international arrivals and admissions interviews. You can also apply to be a Schools Strand Ambassador where you work with school groups from primary age to sixth form, delivering HE workshops and getting involved with sessions run by Aimhigher and NCOP.

Varsity

Varsity is an annual sporting event where our sports teams compete against the sports teams from Bucks New University. Every year, Varsity is an exciting event both for students taking part and watching.

Roehampton Feelgood Festival

The Roehampton Feelgood Festival will take place in early April and will consist of many activities including dance and fitness classes, rowing and bike challenges, sunset yoga, healthy food stalls, a smoothie bike, old school sports day activities and more.

Entry to the event is £5 and all entry fees will go directly to a local charity, so come down to Whitelands field for some fitness and fun!

Whitelands May Day

Whitelands May Day is an annual celebration which has been going on since 1881. This year, it will be take place on Saturday 9 May 2020, where Whitelands College will celebrate it’s 140th May Day festival.

Chancellor’s Careers Award

The Chancellor’s Careers Award is a scheme which supports students in preparing for graduation through the development of employability skills and recognition of extra-curricular activities. It consists of 15 tasks and once finished, students are awarded a certificate of completion, signed by the University’s Chancellor, Jacqueline Wilson.

All students across the University, as well as Alumni, are able to access and complete the Award during the academic year. Find out more via CareerLink here.
