Hey everyone, I’m Athena, a Cyber Security student at Roehampton, and I’m here to share why this university is a great choice for aspiring cyber professionals like myself!
1. Why did you choose to study Cyber Security at Roehampton?
Cyber security has always been my passion, and when it came to choosing a university, Roehampton was my top pick. I love the supportive atmosphere; everyone is friendly and encouraging here. Plus, have you seen our campus? It’s easily the prettiest university campus in London!
2. What do you enjoy the most about studying Cyber Security?
The thrill of tackling challenges is what I enjoy the most. At Roehampton, we’re encouraged to unleash our creativity, no matter which area we choose to specialise in. From delving into Digital Forensics to exploring Security Testing, every aspect of the curriculum offers enjoyable learning experiences.
3. How has Roehampton supported you throughout your studies?
The great thing about Roehampton is the flexibility and the ability to adjust our schedules to accommodate extracurricular activities or part-time work. In the first week of every term, we can change the time or date of our classes based on our work schedule. My degree has upgraded my professional skills through exercises and projects, and now I’m exploring internship and part-time job opportunities, with guidance from my lecturers. The support from my lecturers, particularly while navigating university life as an international student, has been phenomenal. They’ve been incredibly understanding and supportive, offering advice, guidance, and a compassionate ear throughout every hurdle.
4. When you’re not in class, what are some of your favourite things to do at Roehampton?
Being part of the Lego society with my closest friends has been an absolute highlight. Also, I enjoy the tranquillity of sitting by the lake, listening to calming music, or taking leisurely walks to Richmond Park, which is close to the university.
5. What facilities do you use on campus?
Since I commute, I often use the Roehampton free shuttle buses to get to campus. When on campus, you’ll typically find me in the computer labs or library.
6. What advice would you give to future students considering studying Cyber Security at Roehampton?
If you’re considering studying Cyber Security at Roehampton, I highly recommend it. Embrace the new opportunities that come your way and remember that you’re capable of overcoming challenges. While it might be tough to ask for help at times, don’t hesitate to reach out when you need it – you’ll find great support from the Roehampton community.
