Three Roehampton journalism students worked with the British Society of Magazine Editors to help stage one of the society’s main events of the year, the BSME Talent Awards.
Third-year students Nyela Walker and Selena Williams, and second-year student Casey Brockbank, worked late into the evening at the June 4 event, which was hosted by Radio 1 DJ and television presenter Sian Eleri and BSME chair Gideon Spanier.
The event took place at 100 Wardour Street in Soho, with Nyela, Selena and Casey assisting to ensure the awards celebration went off without a hitch.
“I had the role of filming content for the Instagram reel,” Casey said. “It was a fantastic opportunity to gain experience creating content for such an event and shadowing people from a field of work I am interested in.”
The Roehampton Journalism Programme has had a long relationship with the BSME, giving students the chance to work at multiple events each year, where they can network and learn about the industry.
“We at the BSME love working with the multi-skilled students from Roehampton on our events for editors and journalists,” a BSME representative said.
“The students are always professional and polite and willing to take on a variety of roles. We hope they enjoy it and gain some useful experience along the way “
