Gassy’s experience studying Fda Theology, Mission and Practice at Roehampton

Hi, my name is Gassy Traore, and I study Fda Theology, Mission and Practice at University of Roehampton. Here is my story:

I came to the UK from France at the age of 18 to study for a degree in Childcare and a Master’s in Magazine Journalism.

Years later, I decided to study Theology at the University of Roehampton, with the only expectation to deepen my rekindled faith in Christ, as Theology and Biblical studies are almost non-existent in France.

Returning to University as a mature student was a challenge as I did not know what to expect when attending my first class. Although I was nervous, I quickly engaged with the programme and bloomed as a learner. Even my choices in what I read has changed because the lecturers were sharing such wisdom!

Learning about the history of the Christian faith has been such a beautiful journey, and I have found myself almost instinctively now wanting to visit historical sights and churches with a strong connection to early Christianity.  This is how passionate I have now become about my faith and everything surrounding it.

The University of Roehampton is unique in that I have a real touch of nature on my doorstep, which makes me feel even more connected to God through His Creation.

It’s not uncommon to see the ducks and their ducklings on campus during the Springtime which is a real treat!

I am really looking forward to embarking on my second year of study on the Fda Theology, Mission and Practice programme, and embracing all that God has in store for me.
