So, you might be wondering what a Bloomberg Terminal is and how you’ll use it on your course, read on and find out!

How did the Bloomberg Terminal come about?

In 1981, after 15 years as a general partner at Solomon Brothers, Michael Bloomberg was let go due to new management. What seemed like the end of his career was actually the start of something big. Using his severance package, he founded a company that would eventually become a $100 billion financial powerhouse.

Today, Bloomberg is not just a leader in finance, but Michael himself is the 17th richest person in the world. He’s served three terms as the Mayor of New York, become a philanthropist, and earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It all began with one idea: creating a system that provided real-time financial data and powerful analytics for traders and analysts.

This idea turned into the Bloomberg Terminal, a groundbreaking tool that has been an industry game-changer. In 1982, Merrill Lynch became the first client, paying $30 million for 22 terminals, setting the stage for what would become one of the most valuable companies in the world.
