The exhibition, Class of 2023: Photography Exhibition, will be presented in the gallery space and atrium of the David Bell Building at the University of Roehampton. The work featured in this exhibition has been created by final year students who will graduate in 2023.
The exhibition will run from Friday 12 May until Friday June 9, 2023. The gallery will be open from 9.00-17.00 Monday-Friday.
The students that have been a part of the BA/BSc Photography programme. They joined the university in 2020 and have progressed over three years to deliver a final submission of work for this exhibition. Each student will present a body of images utilising a variety of different presentation strategies.
The emphasis at the University of Roehampton is on exploring photography in a theoretically informed, critical and technically astute fashion. As such, the programme enables students to accumulate a range of advanced technical skills alongside a comprehensive engagement with provocative critical and theoretical material. Students studying at Roehampton explore the medium of photography through its relationship with contemporary cultural discourses across a range of practices and institutions, including advertising, documentary, fashion and fine art.
This group of students have been working towards this final submission through the 2022-23 academic year. The variety of work demonstrates their passion for the medium.
What to expect
This exhibition draws together a group of diverse projects from graduating students and this catalogue celebrates the range of visual enquiry that they have undertaken throughout their final year of the course. Photography touches every part of life, from the family album to the historical archive and through the high production values of commercial photography to experimental fine art practices. The work you see here foregrounds graduates who have produced a range of diverse and intriguing projects informed by the histories, theories and photographic practices taught at Roehampton.
The Private View will be on Thursday 11 May (6-8 pm). Complimentary refreshments with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available. All students, staff and alumni welcome.
