A Day in the Life of a Nursing Student at the University of Roehampton

Hello Everyone! I’m Mariam, a first year Adult Nursing student based at the Croydon campus. This is a day in my life as a commuting student.

Typically my day begins with a prayer then I usually do a home workout to give me a boost of energy in the morning. I have my breakfast, my go to meal being oats with fruit and nuts or a smoothie. After that I do a bit of pre reading at 7:00am for nursing practice 1 to give me an understanding of the topic for clinical simulation.

I start to make my way to campus at 8am, ready to start class at 9:30am. After my morning sessions, I go out for a bit of a stretch and a chat with friends. Not all my friends are studying the same field of nursing, despite the different fields, it’s nice to have friends along the same journey, encouraging you and giving you that emotional support.

When I get home, I go over the theory we covered in clinical simulation. I go into university four times a week so I always make sure to do active recall of my learning so I don’t forget. In my free time I write poems on an app called Poetizer or draw just to relax after a long day of university.

At Roehampton i’m able to find a balance, which I find beneficial for my mental health. It is important to immerse yourself in the vibrant community and participate in as much as you can. Each day presents a new opportunity for growth and unforgettable experiences. Join me at Roehampton where every day is an adventure!
