Denitsa, a second-year Biomedical Science student told us about her experience applying to Roehampton through Clearing.
Did you consider Clearing before results day?
Yes, definitely.
The course I originally wanted to study was quite competitive, so I knew there was a chance I wouldn’t get in. Because of that, I did my research beforehand and looked into universities that offered Biomedical Science through Clearing and Roehampton was one of them.
What happened on results day?
On results day, I called Roehampton straight away. I found out that I was eligible for a conditional offer, then went through the enrolment process. After that, everything just carried on as normal – I started at the same time as everyone else.
Had you heard of Roehampton before Clearing?
I actually first came across Roehampton when I visited on a school trip. That was my first introduction to the university, and it left a really good impression on me.
I remember being really impressed by the campus because it’s absolutely beautiful and by the lecturers. We had a taster lecture in immunology, and the lecturer who delivered it is actually one of my lecturers now.
That experience stayed with me, so when I saw Roehampton listed on UCAS later, I already had a positive feeling about it.
How did you find the Clearing process at Roehampton?
Honestly, it was very straightforward.
Everything felt really well organised, and there were always people available to help. Any questions I had were answered quickly, whether that was by email, over the phone, or in person.
Now that I work as a Student Ambassador and help with Clearing, I can see how much effort goes into making the process as smooth as possible for students.
Did you feel supported during Clearing?
Yes, I felt very supported the whole time.
There are lots of staff focused on helping students through the process and making sure it’s not too stressful. That really came across in my experience.
How did you feel starting as a Clearing student?
I felt completely welcome because I started at the same time as everyone else, it didn’t feel any different. I can’t speak personally about starting later, but I know the university provides support and resources to help students catch up if needed.
I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. There are loads of events organised by the university and the Students’ Union, so it’s really easy to meet people. If you want to get involved socially, there are always opportunities – you just need to take them.
What’s your top tip for students going through Clearing?
Don’t get overwhelmed. Just follow the steps the university gives you, whether that’s emails, calls or guidance online, everything then just falls into place.
