Being a Student Ambassador at Roehampton is more than a part-time job. It’s a chance to earn money while you study, build your confidence and develop skills that can support your future career.
We caught up with some of our Student Ambassadors to find out what they have gained from the role.
1 – Confidence and communication skills
Being a Student Ambassador will help build your confidence. When you initially start out in the role, you might feel a bit nervous, but you’ll soon be out of your comfort zone.
“I came to Roehampton as an introvert, but being a student ambassador has completely changed that. I can now talk to anyone. It’s more than a job; it’s a community where you meet people from all over the world and really grow as a person.”
Mohamed, MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management
From leading campus tours to speaking to prospective students at HE fairs and schools, you quickly become more comfortable communicating with people from all backgrounds.
2 – Presenting and public speaking
As an ambassador, you’re regularly speaking in front of groups, whether that’s at open days, school visits or HE fairs. These skills are what employers actively look for, and you’ll gain them as an ambassador.
“I joined because I already knew a lot about the university and wanted to share that with others – but I’ve learned so much more since. It’s helped me build relationships, improve my communication skills and support other students too. It’s flexible, fits around my studies, and has genuinely helped me grow both personally and professionally.”
Rosemary, BSc Adult Nursing

3 – Leadership and teamwork
You’ll develop your leadership and collaboration skills in a practical way. Whether you’re helping run an event or working as part of a team on busy open day, you learn how to take initiative and work effectively with others.
“The best thing about being a student ambassador is the variety. You could be helping on an open day, visiting a school or supporting an event. It’s really flexible, so I can prioritise my studies while gaining valuable experience. It’s also inspired me to learn more about the university and make the most of my time here.”
Aaron, BSc Business Management and Finance
4 – Problem-solving and adaptability
No two days are the same and that means learning how to think on your feet. These experiences will help build resilience and quick thinking, which are key skills you need for both study and work.
“This role has helped me build my leadership, teamwork and adaptability skills, and it’s definitely supported my studies too. I’ve had the chance to work at events, visit schools and help younger students learn about university life.”
Juliana, BSc Psychology

5 – Professional skills for your future career
You’ll pick up transferrable skills that you can put on your CV and use as examples in interviews. From punctuality to customer service and professionalism, the role helps you build a strong foundation for life after university.
