Only a few days to go until one of the biggest events of your life so far! It is a day to celebrate you β how hard you have worked, how far you have come, how bright your future is. Here are a few final last minute tips and reminders, to ensure that you have a smooth-sailing, enjoyable day.
Arrive on time
If you are someone who read your emails and stuck to the deadlines, you only need to arrive an hour prior to your ceremony, in order to give you time to collect your robe, take any photos, and be seated twenty minutes before the start. If you need to pay for your gown, photography or extra tickets on the day, then make sure to arrive an hour and a half before your ceremony time. Take into account the central London location, and give yourself plenty of travel time – Waterloo is only a few minutes walk away from the Royal Festival Hall, so heading there is probably your best bet.
Dress sensibly
It is going to be hot! With temperatures in the high twenties forecast for both days, bear in mind that your robe will add a hot and heavy extra layer to your outfit. Try to wear something light and airy, and make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day. Graduation is a formal event, so dress smartly.
Breathe
While your graduation is doubtless a very big deal, it is not an occasion for you to be nervous or worry about. Take a few deep breaths, remember that everyone else is in the same boat as you, and hopefully your nerves will melt away into excitement.
Bring pins
To keep your hood in the right place, each one comes with a small loop at the front, designed to attach to a shirt button. If you have no button on your graduation outfit, bring a few safety pins to secure your hood to your shoulders or front, to minimise adjustments and rearrangements.
Keep your essentials to hand
Do not forget your ID (student ID, passport, driver’s licence etc.) and confirmation email, as these are required in order to collect your tickets from Level One. Once you have your ticket(s), do not lose them, otherwise you will not be permitted into the ceremony or reception. Your confirmation email will also be necessary to collect your robe from Level Two, so donβt put it away!
Consult your email
You will have received an information email from graduation@roehampton.ac.uk, with all the details and information you could possibly need. If you have any last minute panics or wobbles, check back to this email, and you will find the answer.
