This Roehampton Girl Can

What a week! Each year, Sport and Active Communities arrange a host of free and engaging activities to encourage and develop women in sport, alongside the national This Girl Can campaign. Alongside the usual women-only programme of events throughout the year, This Roehampton Girl Can week offers a jam-packed schedule of classes, activities and socials for the women of Roehampton. Scattered across all three strands of Sport and Active Communities (Sport, Gym and Play), Roehampton’s female students and staff are given the chance to try something new, for free, and are encouraged to pursue a sporting ambition. While the national campaign is week-long, Roehampton promotes getting more women into sport year-round, and each year participates in This Girl Can to further increase female representation within the sporting communities of Roehampton.

Female sports teams held specific training and introductory sessions to their sport, which were open to all female students, with no need for a play membership. through opening their doors, these teams became more accessible and provided a taster to encourage those who do not have a regular commitment to a Roehampton team to join.

((Bounce)), a trampoline workout class offered weekly by the RSU, was free for one week only to celebrate This Girl Can. Run by a Roehampton alumna, the fun, nightclub-esque classes are held in Monte Hall and are a hit throughout the year.

Regardless of gym membership, all Roehampton women were given free access to a minimum of three gym classes a day, with Friday boasting an incredible eight free classes. From Les Mills Bodycombat to weights, each class is designed to get your body moving and sweating.

Joining a sports team or regularly attending fitness classes at Roehampton is a great way to keep fit, have fun and make friends. Gender should never be a barrier, and Roehampton is committed to providing equal opportunities to all. Throughout the year, weekly Women-Only Workouts are run by Sport and Active Communities, promoting fitness to women.
