UR Leaders is a two-day interactive leadership development programme for students taking place on 8-9 January 2020. Farrah completed UR Leaders last year and has come up with 5 reasons why you should apply too. Applications for UR Leaders 2020 close on November 20th 2019.

Here are Farrah’s 5 reasons why you should apply to do UR Leaders 2020.
Great way to begin the year
UR Leaders happens in January before you start back with lectures. It re-energises you after the holidays, and gives you a positive mind-set at the beginning of the year.
Become more connected to students across the university
You will meet many students who you may not otherwise meet. In the past, I tended to hang out only with people on my course. UR Leaders provided an opportunity to develop connections with new people, including masters and PhD students.
Hear from inspirational leaders
Throughout UR Leaders, you get the opportunity to hear from inspirational leaders, motivational speakers and experts in leadership development. When I did the programme, they gave me practical strategies for leading as well as approaching work and life. These strategies really helped me with my leadership journey after the 2-day event.
Two days that are fun and different to typical university life
UR Leaders takes you out of the classroom into a new environment, which you may not have experienced before. It’s nice to do something different and take part in the challenges which help you grow and develop and prepare you for your future.
Leave feeling accomplished and with a more positive perspective
After I did the programme, I had a more positive, ‘have-a-go’ attitude. The programme inspired me to run for Gender Equality Officer in the RSU elections, something I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do before. At the huge questions event that kicks off the elections in Monte Hall, I was physically shaking with fear before going on stage. But I remembered some of the skills we’d learned on the programme, changed my perspective, and managed to speak the calmest and most confidently I ever had. After that, I finally believed I could genuinely be a good part-time officer, and actually saw myself as a great leader. I put my all into campaigning and got elected!
