University Mental Health Day

Thursday 5 March 2020 is University Mental Health Day. This is a day to bring together the University community to make mental health a University-wide priority. There are a number of events on throughout the day designed to promote positive wellbeing which you can find information on below, as well as information on the other support we offer throughout the year!

Today’s Events

  • Meet your Sabb Officer (11am-12pm, Students’ Union)
  • Wellbeing Walk (12:30pm, Richardson Building)
  • Wellbeing Hour (1-2pm, Howard 001)
  • Counselling Drop-In (1-2pm, Richardson Building)
  • Making Eco Bricks (2-3pm, The Reef, Southlands)
  • Social Tennis (4pm, The MUGA)
  • Tea and Toast (4-5:30pm, The Well)
  • WOW Yoga (8:30-7:30pm, Chapman Hall)

Mental Health First Aid Training Course

We’re so excited to be offering a 2-day Mental Health First Aid training course for all students and staff. Not only is this a highly desirable (accredited) certification to add to your CV to increase your employability prospects, but is also an exclusive opportunity to equip you with invaluable skills, strategies and techniques that will support you – and those around you – for the rest of your lives. Student Wellbeing Officer

Your Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO) is available to provide you with confidential emotional and practical wellbeing support for any difficulty you may have during your studies – bereavement, sexual assault and harassment, mental health difficulties, financial hardship and more. 

Each College has a Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO). Students living on campus should access support from the SWO of the College your accommodation is. Students living off campus should access support from the SWO of the College you study at.

Wellbeing Drop-Ins

Our wonderful Wellbeing Team run a Wellbeing Drop-In Service to all students during term-time. Sessions are run every day from 1-2pm in Richardson Building on Digby Stuart Campus. We offer 10-minute slots in order to provide a quick service for advice, support and signposting to other support services. We can also signpost you to your SWO for a follow-up wellbeing appointment.  If you are in need of urgent wellbeing support please do attend one of the daily wellbeing drop-ins. Mental Health Advisors

Our mental health advisors can support you if you are experiencing difficulties related to a mental health diagnosis. This can involve providing interventions, offering advice and guidance, sign posting to specialist support and working with students to strengthen self-management strategies. To make an appointment with our Mental Health Advisor, please contact your Student Wellbeing Officer.

RoeWellbeing App

The RoeWellbeing app is packed full of mindfulness techniques, self-care advice and podcasts, to provide support for your wellbeing. It has a ‘Support’ section, where you can access all University Student Support Services, refer to the wellbeing service, see drop-in times and access resources to support you if you are struggling.

The app also includes a news feed with updates from the Wellbeing Team, as well as information about self-care and positive wellbeing from relevant charities. The app makes getting support at any time easy and accessible, combining all the information you might need whilst at University into one place.

Life and Soul Collection

Earlier this academic year, the library launched the Life & Soul collection. This curated collection was developed in conjunction with other teams such as  the Chaplaincy, Health & Wellbeing and the LGBT+ network,  is aimed at supporting our user’s health wellbeing and personal growth.
