Support from the moment you arrive 

You’ll have the opportunity to meet our Student Futures team at our Fresher’s Fair. Our dedicated careers service is made up of careers consultants, placement specialists and employer engagement experts. You’ll have your own careers consultant, who is linked to your academic area, so the advice you receive is always relevant to your subject and goals. 

In your first and second years, the focus will be on helping you build employability through: 

• Volunteering and community opportunities 

• Part-time work and paid campus roles, such as working as a Student Ambassador 

• Developing transferable skills to strengthen your CV early on. 

By the time you reach your final year, support becomes more tailored. This includes CV reviews, career pathway guidance, interview preparation and advice on graduate roles or postgraduate study. 

It’s normal to not know what career you want 

You might arrive at university unsure of what you want to do, and that’s totally normal. Our careers consultants will work closely with you to explore your strengths, interests and previous experience, including any part-time jobs or volunteering that might not initially have seemed related to your career. 

Through one‑to‑one appointments, you will be encouraged to explore different options, build your confidence and discover pathways that you may not have considered before.
